With 19 years of experience in HR, Branden Nelson uses his knowledge in today’s session to discuss HR strategies that businesses and companies can take to make their institutions a more conducive, productive and inclusive environment.

In his interview, Branden notes that HR chose him after coming out with a degree in marketing and having encounters with only HR opportunities, he decided to pursue it.

On his reason for wanting to stand out and not fit into the typical cookie cutter HR standard, he says he does it not to be difficult but to amplify and increase representation of black men in HR because there is a certain stereotyping of HR to be more feminine oriented. Therefore, he is of the belief that if HR is shown to be as it is, that is multifaceted, men in general will be more interested in participating actively in the space.

Branden concludes with this statement ; “If I don’t believe that I’m valuable and I can do things, no one is going to believe it”.
